Anabel Garcia - Kurland

As an alumna of the Royal College of Art, I am a London-based architectural designer and music producer who focuses on multidisciplinary research practices such as sound design, creative coding, gaming, and film to explore my interests in aestheticising the intangible political impacts from complex ecologies. My projects have delved into various areas, including efficient heat-reuse in Arctic data centres, horology farming, digital archiving of skin, and biopolitics in filtered data.

My research on 'Reclaiming Idleness' was curated by Sir Jony Ive's 'Optimistic, Singular and new' as one of the artists significant for the future, and featured featured in I-D magazine. I have been part of a research collective at the Het Nieuwe Instituut, collaborating on projects like 'Automated Landscapes: Data Matter: Digital Networks, Data Centres & Posthuman Institutions' with OMA. Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to exhibit various projects globally and continue to guest lecturer at institutions which include the Royal College of Art, Design Academy Eindhoven and have been running workshops for over four years with STORE projects/Bartlett UCL for aspiring young designers.

Currently, I am a founding director of Passion Fruit Studios and a freelance designer in both UX, product and build projects.  I have experience in services such as architectural work with BIM Level 2 for large scale residential/commerical, stage/set/exhibition design, and commercial retail work.
